Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) & Habitat Assessment
Most new developments in England must now deliver at least a 10% increase in biodiversity, measured using the statutory biodiversity metric. We carry out the habitat surveys and metric calculations needed for a planning application, and prepare the plans required to discharge the biodiversity gain condition. Where watercourses are present, we also carry out River Condition Assessments.
Ecological Surveys and Impact
Assessment
We support planning applications from the first site visit through to the final report. A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) and Preliminary Roost Assessment (PRA) for bats identify what is present on site and whether further work is needed. We then carry out the protected species surveys required (often called Phase 2 surveys), including bat emergence and activity surveys, and bring the results together in an Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) for the local planning authority. Where a survey calls for specialist expertise, we work with expert professionals, and you keep a single point of contact throughout.
Habitat Management & Enhancement
We prepare management plans for woodland, grassland and wetland, for landowners who want to improve the condition of their land for wildlife, whether or not a planning application is involved, including Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs) for BNG. Working with our arboricultural partner, we also provide tree surveys to BS 5837 and Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIAs) for planning applications.
